Membership Examination of the Royal College of General Practitioners
Overview
The MRCGP exam is a postgraduate medical qualification required to attain a certificate of completion of training in General Practice. It consists of three components: AKT (Applied Knowledge Test), CSA (Clinical Skills Assessment), and WBPA (Workplace Based Assessment). The exam is completed within a UK GP Training Scheme. This exam became an integrated training and assessment system in 2007.
An international version, MRCGP(INT), exists, adapted for local systems, also involving knowledge, skills, and sometimes workplace assessments. Success leads to CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) and RCGP Membership, a prerequisite for independent practice.

MRCGP Components:

Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA):

Workplace Based Assessment (WBPA):
Provides a framework for evaluating a doctor’s progress in areas best tested in the workplace. Includes assessments such as Mini-CEX, COT, and CBD.

Eligibility and Registration:
Register for exams through the RCGP website. Apply for the test, pay the appropriate fee. Book a test center with Pearson VUE for the AKT.
Diploma of Membership:
Successful completion of all three stages leads to a membership Certification. The MRCGP is essential for a doctor to work as an independent GP in the UK.
