Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board
Overview
The PLAB exam helps ensure that doctors who qualified abroad have the right knowledge and skills to practice medicine in the UK. It is essential for overseas qualified doctors seeking registration with the General Medical Council (GMC). The PLAB exam consists of two parts: Part 1 and Part 2.
Both tests assess clinical skills, but PLAB part 1 is about knowledge application (MCQs) and PLAB part 2 evaluates practical skills in simulated UK settings, requiring IELTS/OET and a primary medical qualification for entry, with passes valid for two years to apply for UK registration.
